Here’s my “Free” Gift to you!!??
You’re probably on a bunch of mailing lists. Me too. Have you noticed lately that everyone seems to be offering “Free gifts?”
Or should I say that THEY (the writers) are saying that the gifts are “free,” when in fact, just lead you to someone elses site, wherein if you want this “free” gift, you have to sign up for THAT mailing list as well!
For one, I’m not really sure that qualifies as a “free gift.” I guess, in a roundabout way, it is, but only if its valuable to you. Seems a bit misleading at times though.
Second, it does irk me occasionally, that these writers think they’re doing us some big favor by telling us about this “free” gift… that isn’t really free since we have to sign up for yet another list! Sure, I suppose we can unsubscribe after downloading the free gift, which I suspect most people will do, unless the new list owner provides us with some great reason to stay on it.
The biggest problem I have with this ploy, is that it is NOT a free gift from the (first) list owner! The list owner is NOT providing anything other than “where” to get someone else’s FREE gift. To me, thats sort of deceitful, and makes YOU look bad. How reliable or honest do your subscribers think you are when you tell them that it’s free, when it is not (sure, it doesn’t actually cost you anything but your email address to get it, but still, thats NOT really free). AND, then, you call it “your” free gift - and it isn’t “yours” - it’s someone elses. You can’t possibly consider that just “telling” us about it is a “free gift.” If you think that way, then you really consider your words a gift? Hmmm…
Don’t tell me it’s YOUR free gift to me, when, in reality, it is NOT “YOUR” free gift, but someone elses! Why don’t you call it a “resource” you found or a free gift YOU found - NOT “your” free gift to me - because YOU aren’t providing the free gift, now are you? Unless of course, you think that a “free gift” is you telling me where to go to grab someone elses free gift! (which I most likely could have found on my own). At least when you call it a free resource you found, that makes a bit more sense and is more truthful.
Perhaps I’m taking it all wrong, and making a big deal out of nothing. What do you think? Let me know! I think if you’re going to give a “free gift” - let it be truly free! Like, here ya go! Download this, RIGHT NOW, here, no signup or other requirement to do.
That ones almost as bad as the gurus sending out emails claiming “hey, my friend Mr. X gave me (and only me… yeah right) a special great deal on this doo-dad that you can use too” - just click here! Seems to me, Mr. X has A TON of special friends, ALL with THEIR OWN special offers made JUST for them (lol!!). WOW! Thats amazing… and REALLY believable… (not)… since I get the exact same email from 100 other list-owners! But thats a whole other subject…
